Source – Druginfozone – A safety review has been finalised by the European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Medicinal
Products for Human Use (CHMP) for Protopic (tacrolimus ointment) and Elidel (pimecrolimus cream) following reports of skin cancer and lymphoma in patients who had used these products.
The topical medicines are used in the treatment of atopic dermatitis (eczema). Following reports of skin cancer and lymphoma in patients
who had used these products, the Committee started the safety review for both products in April 2005.
The Committee were unable to conclude whether Protopic or Elidel caused the reported cases of skin cancer or lymphoma, on the basis of
the available data. They concluded that the benefit outweighed the risk of using the products
