Source – Druginfozone - A multicentre randomised controlled trial published in BMJ February 2006 (published early online) has
found that giving moderately malnourished children with cystic fibrosis (CF) long-term oral protein energy supplements does not seem to have any benefits.
The trial involved 102 CF children, aged 2 – 15 years, who were moderately malnourished.
Children were randomised into two groups: the supplement group received supplements plus dietary counselling, plus a control group who
received counselling only.
The main outcome was a change in body mass index centile over one year.
