Source – Medical News Today - A life-saving drug which offers potential benefit to children with leukaemia who have become allergic to front line therapies is to be produced by the Health Protection Agency in partnership with OPi Pharmaceuticals.
Erwinase(crisantaspase), is an enzymatic anti-cancer agent used in the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and some
non-Hodgkin lymphomas, was developed by scientists at the Agency’s Centre at Porton, will be manufactured there and under an exclusive deal, packaged, marketed and distributed by OPi Pharmaceuticals.
Current front line therapies used in the treatment of childhood leukaemia can cause allergic reactions in up to 30 per cent of patients,
and Erwinase (cristantaspase) is an effective alternative for which there is considerable clinical demand.
