Catrin Barker BSc (Hons), MSc, PG Dip in Clinical Pharmacy, MRPharmS

Principal Pharmacist and Head of Service

Catrin graduated from the Liverpool School of Pharmacy in 1984 and completed her pre-registration training with Liverpool District Health Authority.  After 18months of general  hospital experience at The Royal Liverpool Hospital she began her career in paediatric pharmacy at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in 1987.  During the period 1991-1993, Catrin was seconded to work at Mersey Regional Drug Information Service and MeReC (The Medicines Resource Centre – now part of the National Prescribing Unit).  She returned to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in 1993 as Principal Pharmacist, Clinical Services and began preliminary work on establishing the DIAL service.  In 1997 Catrin  was appointed as Head of Service for DIAL. [top]

Post-graduate qualifications: -Catrin gained an MSc in pharmacology from Liverpool University for research on drug-protein binding in renal disease in 1989.  She was awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (with distinction) in 1990.[top]

Dr. Madelaine Whelan PhD, MRPharmS, Bsc (Hons)

Madelaine graduated from Liverpool School of Pharmacy in 1996 and completed 12 months pre-registration training at The Royal Liverpool Children’s Hospital (Alder Hey), Liverpool.

Between 1997 and 2000, Madelaine undertook a PhD in pharmaceutics at Liverpool John Moores University where she was also appointed as a teaching assistant during this period. From 2000-2001 she became a lecturer in Pharmaceutics and gained her PhD. She returned to Alder Hey in 2002 after a short time at Liverpool Women’s Hospital where she gained experience in neonatology as a clinical pharmacist.

Madelaine was appointed to DIAL as senior pharmacist Medicines Information, in September 2003 and is currently studying towards the Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy at Liverpool John Moores University. She is also  current Secretary to the Liverpool Branch of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

 

Susan Wileman BTech

Pharmacy Technician (Medicines Information)

Susan has worked at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital since qualifying as a pharmacy technician in 1990. She joined Dial in 2001 as a Medicines Information technician with special responsibility for website maintenance and development. [top]

Veronica Newland BSc(Hons), MSc., MRPharmS

Senior Pharmacist Medicines Information

Veronica graduated from the Sunderland School of Pharmacy in 1984.  She completed her pre-registration year at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle, qualifying as a pharmacist in 1985.  She remained in the North-East and gained experience as a dispensary manager and later as a Medicines Information pharmacist.  She joined Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in 1991 and has led the development of the internal medicines information unit. Post-graduate qualifications: -Veronica was awarded an MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1987. [top]

Anita Aindow BPharm., MRPharmS

Senior Pharmacist Medicines Information

Anita qualified from Bradford School of Pharmacy in 1988 and completed 12 months post-registration experience with Boots the Chemists.  She joined Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in 1990 and has been a member of the Medicines Information team since 1992.  She is a member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health/ Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacists Group editorial board for the publication “Medicines for Children”, a national paediatric dosage handbook. Gillian Jones BTech

Senior Clinical Pharmacy Technician

Gill qualified as a pharmacy technician in 1998, at Whiston Hospital, Merseyside.  She gained post qualification experience at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and at North Mersey Community Trust.  She returned to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in April 2001 to take up a newly created post of clinical technician, providing Medicines Information and ward services.
